Marriage of Figaro

Music by Giacomo Puccini
February 4, 5, and 6th, 2011
Sung in Italian with English surtitles
Written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

The key to this opera is in understanding who is chasing whom. The Countess still loves the Count. Well, she does think that Cherubino is awfully cute, but that's only because the Count has eyes for Susanna, who is engaged to Figaro. Meanwhile, Barbarina is also crazy about Cherubino, who is really interested in anything in a skirt except Marcellina, who is after Figaro until she finds out that.?. Comic chaos turns into blissful resolve and raucous hilarity into revelations about love and what it means to forgive. Only a genius like Mozart could make the Marriage of Figaro as funny and relevant today as when it premiered in 1786. At once humorous and touching, this madcap masterpiece represents the crowning glory of Mozart's unparalleled brilliance. The Marriage of Figaro, for very good reason, is often described as the most perfect comic opera ever written.
