LITTLE TRAIN THAT COULD- THE MUSICAL

For the forth year, San Antonio Opera and the Magik Theatre will collaborate on a fantastic educational opportunity for children of elementary ages. The Little Engine that Could, also known is a moralistic children's story that appeared in the United States of America. The book is used to teach children the value of optimism and hard work. Some critics would contend that the book is a metaphor for the American dream. The tale with its easy-to-grasp moral has become a classic children's story.

DRESS REHEARSAL FOR THE MIKADO

Each season, San Antonio Opera invites middle school children to attend an actual dress rehearsal of a main-stage opera. This educational event, that brings students to the venue where major operas are performed, is essential to the overall awareness of the art. Each year's collaboration with the Opera Guild of San Antonio brings approximately 2,000 children to the theatre for a live opera performance, this season for Donizetti's comedy The Daughter of the Regiment in January of 2010. Sponsored by the Opera Guild of San Antonio.

Opera in the High Schools
Our newest program, ExtremeOpera, brings opera into the high schools. This September, San Antonio Opera will present a rock version of Mozart's great work, Don Giovanni, staged in a contemporary setting and starring high school age characters caught in many of the same situations for which the original opera is famous. The opera will deliver a strong message about actions and consequences to our high school audiences and will be reduced in length and sung in English, with orchestration and music for a rock ensemble. Sponsored by the AT&T Foundation. For more information on this program please contact our Education Director, Natalie Coronado, at 210-225-5972
